We stand for equality.
“Queer people don’t grow up as ourselves, we grow up playing a version of ourselves that sacrifices authenticity to minimize humiliation & prejudice. The massive task of our adult lives is to unpick which parts of ourselves are truly us & which parts we’ve created to protect us.”

Garrett County Pride - LGBTQ+ History
The origins of our grassroots volunteer organization:
Fall - Winter 2021
Despite ongoing challenges from COVID-19, Garrett County Pride saw a large increase in community interest, volunteers, and provided additional assistance.
An online event was held over the course of three (3) days, and was attended by forty-seven (47) people from the local tri-state area, with attendees from as far away as Ohio!
Initial planning also began to further formalize Garrett County Pride as a resource-based organization. More to come in 2022!
Summer 2020
Despite COVID-19, the first Garrett County Pride was held online on June 7, 2020. Eight (8) people attended, and it was a cheerful experience where people talked about being more involved in the community, being more proud of who they are in public, and giving voice to policy issues and concerns that LGBTQ+ minorities face in Garrett County, Maryland. Participants were from Oakland, Maryland, Cumberland, Maryland, Frostburg, Maryland, Morgantown, West Virginia, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A second event was held, and attended by twenty-one (21) people.
Fall 2018-2019
Initial planning and saving for a 2020 Garrett County Pride was led by two people to create a safe space for LGBTQ+ individuals in Garrett County, Maryland.
Garrett County Pride was founded on Sunday, October 7, 2018.
While we host events, our primary focus is on serving the significantly underserved LGBTQ+ populations in Garrett County, Maryland, and the surrounding counties in Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania.
